A new research chair to develop and maintain resilient infrastructures for northern communities
Published on 29 Sep 2022
In the face of climate change, the need to develop and maintain reliable and safe infrastructures for northern communities and natural resources in the northern regions of Quebec and Canada requires a high level of expertise in northern engineering. The new Sentinel North Partnership Research Chair on Northern Infrastructure will promote, through the development of technological tools, the sustainable development of infrastructure adapted to northern conditions and resilient to climate change.
"Our laboratory has few equivalents in the world. We have simulators that allow us to assess the combined effect of heavy vehicles and the harsh northern climate. With this research Chair, my team and I will further our knowledge of northern infrastructure, which will allow us, among other things, to develop technology and processes for the construction and maintenance of roads in northern Quebec and Canada," says Jean-Pascal Bilodeau, assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Water Engineering at Université Laval and holder of the Sentinel North Partnership Research Chair on Northern Infrastructure.
In total, 15 research chairs have been funded by Sentinel North and its partners.
