Opportunities and competitions

The Sentinel North research and training strategy offers all researchers and students the chance to push their limits in a unique research and learning environment. By encouraging discovery, transdisciplinarity, innovation, collaboration and partnership, Sentinel North offers many learning and funding opportunities that all are invited to grasp.

  • Author Fund

The Sentinel North Author Fund aims to encourage publications by graduate students and postdoctoral fellows as 1st author, while reinforcing North Sentinel's commitment to open access and the deposit of publications on the CorpusUL institutional platform.

You may apply for the Author Fund at any time. However, applications will only be processed and evaluated three times per year. Applicants should take the following evaluation dates into account:

    • February 1
    • June 1
    • November 1
  • Access to Northern Infrastructure Fund

Sentinel North provides its researchers with a Fund to facilitate their access to northern research infrastructure and support field work in terrestrial or marine environments. Get all details here.

Funding requests can be submitted at any time. However, applications are assessed twice a year. Applicants must consider the following evaluation dates in their planning:

    • April 1st (exception for 2021)
    • October 1st
  • Technology Maturation Fund

The goal of the Technology Maturation Fund (French only) is to support the maturation of projects originating from Université Laval research teams that fall within the conceptual framework of Sentinel North and have a strong potential for commercialization. The funding is intended to support the steps that will allow a technology or know-how to reach the necessary levels of technological maturity before being transferred to an industrial partner.

The next deadline for applications to the Maturation Fund is Monday, September 26, 2021 at 11:59 pm.

  • Research projects

Projects and chairs funded by Sentinel North can provide opportunities for master's, doctoral and post-doctoral students to pursue their research projects in a dynamic and innovative transdisciplinary setting.
